Lanarkshire Rape Crisis Centre (LRCC) provides practical, emotional and justice advocacy support to women and girls who have been subjected to rape/sexual assault/abuse at any time in their lives. We can offer crisis and advocacy support to all survivors (12yrs+). We support and empower people to help them recover from traumatic experiences. We currently work with over 300 survivors each year; we accept self referrals and consented referrals from other agencies. We deliver educational Prevention programmes in schools to educate young people on healthy relationships, consent and how they can challenge gender inequality.

Why the community needs us
1 in 3 (35%) of women worldwide have experienced either physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence in their lifetime. (World Health Organisation research) We champion the voices of women and girls and reject all forms of male violence - it has no place in society.  With structured support, women and girls gain in confidence and progress to recovery. This indirectly impacts on families and local communities in a positive way. Our young people deserve to know what positive relationships look like and to reject harmful and limiting gender stereotypes.

Our impact on the community
Women and girls who have been supported by LRCC say they have their lives back, they have been valued, they have been heard and believed. The impact of sexual violence can include, lack of confidence, fear, anger, guilt, self-blame, self-harm and isolation, however we know that recovery from trauma is possible and achievable. We receive feedback that shows how far service users have come when supported, like an increase in confidence, self-esteem, self-image. No one has the right to cause you harm; it is never your fault; we work tirelessly to support women and girls and to raise awareness of the impact and realities of sexual violence in Lanarkshire.
