We are based in Somers Town, a multi-deprived part of Camden in London.
We are supported by 50 local volunteers who provide support to collect, sort and redistribute surplus food to circa 80 local households supporting over 300 people every week, 10 local hostels, 1 after-school club and 1 local church group.
This is the equivalent of 15 tonnes of surplus food every quarter that directly benefits the local community.
Circa 35% of collections are carbon avoided by using a mixture of cars, bicycle trailers and carts.
Circa 65% of redistribution is carbon avoided for the same reasons.
Families who collect their food parcels are able to chose the items they need for that week rather than being given generic food parcels. This helps to support their needs in the longterm and prevents waste. We call this method: Request what you Eat, Eat what you Request.
On top of food parcels we are able to provide local households with employability support, debt referrals, care navigation, fuel vouchers and more. Helping to bridge the gap between mainstream services and those considered as hard to reach.
We have a circa 73% BAME engagement where English is an additional language for a large majority of our service users.
We provide meaningful volunteering opportunities for people who live locally.
We employ locally and pay just above the London Living Wage.
We are passionate about the prevention of food waste and how it can be used to support people the right way. To find out more head to our website or our instagram @lifeafterhummus
