We aim to reduce social isolation for older people in Northampton by providing 1:1 support and befriending, encouraging social interaction and enabling our members to remain active and living independently in their own homes for as long as practically possible.
Why the community needs usOur 1:1 befriending support and regular social events helps many older people to establish new friendships and to remain active and feeling valued. We run weekly lunch clubs, fitness, craft and games groups, plus regular outings in the local community. This gives our members the opportunity to meet and socialise in a safe and supportive environment. All the activities are run by fully trained staff and volunteers. We aim to help our members to enjoy life, regardless of age and any infirmities.
Our impact on the communityOlder people may become isolated because they do not have family living nearby or are suffering after an illness or the death of a life-long partner. Northampton Live at Home scheme provides sensitive support to encourage members to retain their independence. Scheme members feel supported through our befriending and social events. Families feel reassured that their elderly relative is receiving regular social contact. Volunteers receive training and develop skills to build their confidence.
