The Liberal Jewish Synagogue is the oldest and largest Liberal Synagogue in the UK.
We now need your help as we face the financial challenges resulting from the pandemic and ask you to make any donation that you can.
Every week throughout the year, for over a century, this synagogue has welcomed members, friends and the wider community to religious services, classes and talks, events and activities, offered community care and support, and involvement in social action to everyone, young and old alike.
Since lockdown began in March 2020, the staff and members of the community have been hugely innovative and active in building a new virtual life, giving both support and involvement now, and hope for the future. Shabbat services, initially broadcast from our rabbis' homes and since then from the Sanctuary, via The Liberal Jewish Synagogue YouTube Channel, have allowed our sense of community and togetherness to blossom, new friendships have formed online, our education classes for children and adults have continued unabated and activities have even expanded.
However, there is a cost to all of this – our beautiful building and Sanctuary, although mostly empty, need to be maintained; planned works will need to go ahead when it is safe; education for children and adults alike will continue to be organised and even expanded; social action and support for our asylum-seeker families is ongoing; social care for our community has increased hugely.
We know that the income of a proportion of our members and friends has been directly affected by the downturn in the economy resulting from the Covid pandemic and this is already having an effect on the membership income of the LJS – our lifeblood.
Your support makes a huge difference to everything that we do and also enables us to plan for the future – to meet the increasing needs of our community and to continue to be the vibrant, expansive and inclusive organisation that is the LJS.
Thank you in advance for any gift you are able to make.
