We are a charity which was originally set up by 3 local women who had recovered from breast cancer, to provide regular Dragon Boat paddling sessions on Loch Ken, Dumfries & Galloway, for people wishing to try this great way to keep fit and have fun! We have 2 Dragon Boats each of which can accommodate up to 20 paddlers. We encourage anyone who is 12 years or over, regardless of physical ability, to try dragon boating on beautiful Loch Ken, with gorgeous scenery and red kites flying overhead.

Why the community needs us

We offer Dragon Boating to people recovering from cancer or other illness as well as people not suffering from an illness. There is no upper age limit but paddlers must be 12 years or over. As paddling is a low impact sport, and each paddler can stop and start as they are able, it is suitable for any level of physical fitness. Research has shown that upper-body exercise has a positive effect on combating the symptoms of lymphoedema as well as improving general health, fitness and wellbeing.

Our impact on the community

Apart from being a recommended sport for people recovering from breast cancer, one of our paddlers reports that paddling has helped to overcome the effects of a "frozen shoulder", resulting in improved mobility of the arm and shoulder.
