We are a not-for-profit Community Interest Company based in Luton, which has been set up to encourage a love of reading and creative writing at any age through a range of events, activities and initiatives, and to promote the early uptake of reading in children.
By supporting us, you are supporting:
The Brown Books bookshop project, our wonderful little secondhand community bookshop in High Town
The next Luton Literature Book Festival, planned for September 2024
Our annual local author and illustrator fairs, and our work to give local authors and artists a boost by promoting their work through author talks and readings
The storytelling and arts and crafts events we put on for free (or at a very low cost) for children and young people
Our work with local schools and groups to encourage book shop visits and book clubs, and provide books to children
Our work with local groups working with vulnerable adults, to provide a safe space for service users to discover books
Our commitment to improving accessibility to literary events and activities
Our continued work to inspire children, young people and adults to write, read and be creative, and find new ways to engage with literature
Our wider work with The High Town Community and Luton as a town, to support local and literary events
“So lovely for the children to see people like them and feel inspired. I’m so happy an author event has been held in Luton”
Our first Book Festival in 2022 was a big success, allowing participants of all ages to unleash their creativity by getting involved in a number of workshops and talks, led by national renowned authors and illustrators. It was held at the Hat Factory Arts Centre in the heart of town.
As part of this literary celebration, we also held a local author and illustrator press fair in Luton Central Library, which celebrated its 60th birthday on the day of the festival.
We were able to hold our second local author and illustrator fair in Luton Central Library again this autumn (2023).
