This ancient watermill, set in the artisan quarter of the town, was rescued and brought to full working order by local volunteers. The story is one of local resistance to unthinking bureaucracy and the raising of the mill from dereliction, to the historic jewel that The Town Mill is today. Through volunteers and donations, the mill, its galleries and artisan workshops are open to the public all year with the aim of promoting our milling heritage, supporting arts, education and the environment.

Why the community needs us

The oldest part of the town has been renovated and made accessible to the local community. Meeting rooms, low cost artisan workshops, galleries for community art, venue for school visits and projects, an interesting and tranquil space for all to enjoy.

Our impact on the community

All gardening, milling, mill tours and Visitor Centre reception is provided by volunteers, many of whom were involved in the original restoration. A 'must see' visitor attraction and a popular destination for school and other group visits. Probably the best gallery space in Lyme Regis, accessible to all and provided free to the local school (which specialises in visual arts) for their annual exhibition.
