Restore, reconstruct, preserve, maintain and improve the Manchester Bolton & Bury Canal
Nob End, Little Lever, is the "centre" of the canal as the three arms radiate from this location. The Bolton and Bury Arms are all on one level - the summit (highest) level and the water supply comes from the River Irwell and feeds this summit, via Elton Reservoir. Most of the canal can still be walked. If you would like to hear more about restoration then why not join the Society, attend Open Meetings or take part in Work Parties.
Why the community needs usWe work with local communities, groups and schools along the canal to raise awareness and help them make best use of these facilities, the natural and industrial heritage which is on their doorstep. We work with Canal & Rivers Trust and local Councils to raise funds for the canal restoration and improvement work
Our impact on the communityThe towpaths are now suitable for walking, cycling, fishing and other health promoting activities. We have a wide range of informative publications and interesting talks about the canal, towpath and related social history. Our website provides a source of valuable learning resources for individuals, students and educational establishments.
