We provide free legal assistance to those asylum seekers who wish to appeal against a negative decision or make a fresh claim for asylum and are unable to obtain legal aid. Our volunteers include corporate solicitors, immigration barristers, and law students who work together in teams.
Why the community needs usWe aim to ensure that all asylum seekers have access to justice. Because of recent changes to the Legal Aid process, many lawyers have withdrawn from the field of immigration and the major immigration charities have closed.
Our impact on the communityMany asylum seekers who have had their claim for asylum refused are unable to return to their home country. Having no status in this country they cannot work or claim benefits. There are many destitute asylum seekers living in Leeds. A succesful fresh claim for asylum means someone who was destitute will be able to work and take part in the life of their community.
