Help MAT develop our new Museum and Maritime Archaeology Centre at Yarmouth!
MAT are delighted to be developing the site of the former Yarmouth Primary School into a state-of-the-art museum and maritime archaeology centre. The new centre aims to be a must-see visitor attraction, and will host a range of other facilities and features, it will:

  • Relocate and enhance the significant collection currently at the Shipwreck Centre and Maritime Museum. This includes one of the largest multi-shipwreck site collections in the UK, developed by Martin Woodward.

  • Display and interpret the submerged prehistoric landscapes of the Western Solent, including the unique Mesolithic collections from Bouldnor Cliff.

  • Incorporate a range of displays, activities including immersive AR and VR experiences.

  • Host temporary and touring exhibitions to allow a range of changing local, national and international displays.

  • Have bespoke education and outreach facilities for all ages to welcome school children through to older ages, allowing us to expand our award-winning programme.

  • Provide facilities for hire for meetings and events.

  • House a maritime archaeology library and research centre which includes the impressive library of Valerie Fenwick.

  • A gift shop and café facilities open to all.

We are at the beginning of our fundraising journey for the new, yet to be named, museum. We are currently working towards a fundraising target of around £5million, many grant funders require ‘match funding’, so any contribution your are able to make will not only directly contribute to the development, but can also help unlock larger grant funding.

If you are able to provide a donation of any amount please add 'Yarmouth' in the message box.
