Launched in 2003, the organisation aims to relieve people with mobility problems within Chelmsford through the provision and maintenance of electric scooters, wheelchairs and similar equipment to enable them to participate in everyday activities and lead independent lives. The organisation also now offers a 'Pramobility' service of prams and 'Kiddie Cabs' for short term hire to parents.

Independence is something most people take for granted, but for many elderly or disabled people, this is not an option. Scooters and wheelchairs enable them to regain the freedom of the town.

Meadows Shopmobility has an active membership of around 650 attracting on average about 14 new members a month. We also offer the opportunity of casual hire for those who do not visit Chelmsford regularly.
