Middleport Matters Community Trust evolved from a resident’s group to a Company Limited by Guarantee in January 2018. Our aims are to:
To bring people together & improve a sense of belonging,
To improve the health & wellbeing of local people,
To improve the built & natural environment & enhance the local reputation,
To support local business & encourage employment/enterprise.
Middleport is classified as an area of multiple deprivation (highest 1% IMD 2019), with 32% of children living in poverty, 45% of households with no car and 39% of adults with no qualifications (Coalfields Impact Report 2019). All our activities and events are community led – either identified through engagement with the local community, identifying gaps in services, or through recognition of changing needs in the area. Previous activity has included (but not limited to):
Physical activities for Children & Young People (CYP) funded by the National Lottery Awards 4 All and Street Games
Middleport Park Improvements funded by Pocket Parks and SOT City Council
The Players Academy (music with CYP) project funded by Youth Music
More than Water (Our Space) activities & engagement by the Trent & Mersey Canal, funded by Canal & River Trust
The Secret Garden and Milvale Street project, funded by A4A, Tesco Bags of Help & Groundwork
Various reports and evaluations – housing, environmental, families Currently, we have a variety of projects to reduce social isolation and improve wellbeing (Men’s Social Project, Female Wellbeing Programme, Creative Coffee & Root N Fruit Community Allotment) running alongside our CV19 support – providing nutritious food, hygiene & sanitary essentials plus advice and guidance to local residents.
