The museum is based in the Beach Hotel Complex, on the sea front facing the West Somerset Railway station. The charity aim is to develop a museum in the town to provide free access to the history and culture of the area, and to preserve and interpret items of local history. The long term objective is for a larger, permanent home for the museum with display space to do justice to the maritime history of the town, the traditional Hobby Horse and famous residents such as Arthur C. Clarke
Why the community needs usStaffed and managed entirely by volunteers, the museum provides the opportunity to be involved in developing the collections and promoting awareness to both local residents and visitors to the town to important events and artefacts relating to the area. Entry to the museum is free and is open to the public from Mid March until the end of October each year. The museum is also a registered learning centre for the Children's University and a number of quiz sheets are available for younger visitors.
Our impact on the communityMinehead Museum opened in 2014. Around 10,000 visitors have enjoyed the 2018 exhibitions and we are on course to exceed this total in 2019. Although small we have packed a lot into the space from uniforms to Punch & Judy puppets and plenty on local history ad culture
