MOOT - music of our time: helping local music students and musicians achieve their full potential
To facilitate & promote education, performance and commission of contemporary innovative arts music in Brighton & Hove, through hosting events at local venues to advance the education of local community members in the history, understanding & appreciation of contemporary music; to raise finance to enable the above objects to be achieved; supporting and developing shared cultural experiences and values of social equality and justice; creating volunteer opportunities for university students.
Why the community needs usMOOT has hosted 60 events bringing life to the local cultural scene. 'The Musicians Body' in 2012 had 21 events comprising 9 concerts, 5 body work sessions, 3 educational events, 2 literary events and 2 instrumental master classes and 'Music is for Everyone (Music & Disability)' comprised 8 events
Our impact on the communityRe-enabling musicians with disabilities and injuries; Dr Paul Whittaker OBE has led events about music and its impact on the deaf. A key aim of MOOT is to host events involving people with physical disabilities who carry on lives as professional musicians.
Volunteers are always required to assist in the running of the group from organisational fundraising to educational and event admin to marketing & development.
