We support families with children on the autistic spectrum, aged 3-11. We offer a professional, free service in the family home. We plan intervention programmes to support communication and social skills, sensory issues, daily routines, self-care skills, anxiety and behaviour. We teach new skills through modelling, use of visual aids, Sensory Therapy, Play Therapy, communication groups etc. We also offer training to other professionals and groups in our community.
Why the community needs usMustard Seed provides an important service to families with children on the autistic spectrum, whether in mainstream or special education. We offer a unique combination of Occupational Therapy and language, communication and social and emotional skills teaching. We also offer training to other professionals and groups in the local community, increasing autism awareness and understanding. We run a 6 week course for parents who have recently received a diagnosis of autism for their child.
Our impact on the communityMustard Seed aims to support families who are not able to access other services due to diagnosis issues or waiting lists. We have worked with 44 families since September 2011. Our support includes Sensory Therapy, home support, Play Therapy, the Ready Steady Go communication group and the Empowering Parents Course.
