Supporting independence in older people: car lifts to get out and about, befriending, community cafés, handy person and gardening jobs around the home.
We are a local Basingstoke charity dedicated to supporting older people in Basingstoke and surrounding areas, helping them live independently and stay connected to their community. With 130 volunteers, we support approximately 950 older people each year through five key services:
Driving Service - We provide accompanied transport to hospitals, GP appointments, dentists, social and exercise clubs, and shopping trips ensuring access to essential services and reducing isolation.
One-to-One Befriending - Our volunteers visit those most socially isolated, offering companionship and emotional support to combat loneliness and improve mental wellbeing.
Community Cafés - We run weekly cafés in three venues across Basingstoke, creating friendly spaces for social interaction. These cafés also host information events where specialist charities provide advice tailored to older people.
Handyperson Service - We assist with simple home maintenance tasks, making homes safer and more comfortable. These visits often provide opportunities for clients to share personal concerns, supporting their mental health.
Gardening Service - Our gardeners maintain outdoor spaces and take time for conversation, offering a vital social connection. Both services help older people remain in their homes longer—living longer, better.
