The Muscular Dystrophy Support Centre provides physiotherapy, complementary therapies, advice and support for people with muscular dystrophy, and their families.
Why the community needs usMuscular dystrophy is a muscle wasting condition which causes muscles to weaken over time, leading to increased disability. Some types are life limiting, and many people require a wheelchair or respiratory support. As muscle strength reduces, so does a person's ability to live independently, and carry out everyday tasks that others take for granted. Most people struggle to access regular physio on the NHS, which is where we come in.
Our impact on the communityRegular physio helps people to maintain their muscle strength for longer, improve core stability, reduce pain, and improve muscle usage. The overall goal is to help people living with muscular dystrophy to retain their independence and enjoy a better quality of life. We don't discharge our service users so they can rely on us to help them manage their condition long-term.
