NYCA is a grassroots community regeneration charity working in Pillgwenlly (Pill) in Newport, one of the most deprived areas of Wales. NYCA is dedicated to the social, educational, and economic advancement of the local community and we serve as a bridge between all cultures and communities.
We have been delivering essential services within our community, connecting people to mainstream provision, and offering a range of engagement and integration-focused activities to the communities that make up Pill for over 3 years (registered CIO in March 2020, on the success of a voluntary community activity programme and the needs of the community exponentially growing).
Our work is varied and delivered by staff and volunteers. We offer group activities (sports, cooking, learning) and 1-2-1 advice, advocacy, and guidance (including referrals to mainstream services). Our work is demand-led, responding to the needs of residents. Whilst we seek to avoid categorising the themes of our work in the last year, we can evidence activities which support:
- Community Cohesion
- Family information
- Financial resilience
- Food and fuel poverty
- Housing
- Employment and training
- Citizenship and residency
- Domestic Violence IAG
- Community Safety
- Youth Work
- Health and Well-being (including a holistic offering)
Given the area's poverty, activities are delivered free/low cost at the point of delivery.
Our focus is on enablement and empowerment, enabling our disadvantaged community to break the cycles of poverty, abuse, and neglect and move forward to lead successful and fulfilling lives.
We provide safe opportunities for our communities to come together, support one another and grow personally and professionally.
