We focus on developing English Language skills within an informal café setting, creating a space where people can practice English in a safe environment and become more familiar with English dialogue. Sessions are focussed around playing board games to encourage discussion, but also chatting about particular subjects that are relevant to the group. A café environment not only provides a comfortable space, but also a natural environment to create conversation and learn everyday language skills.

Talk English Café has been set up to address the growing need of English Language provision in the local community. The provision focusses on supporting our ever growing multicultural community and the continuing need of English language training courses within the vicinity. Some language provision in the area can be too expensive for local people to access, so this free provision provides an opportunity for people to access a place where they can learn and practice their English with others.

In the first month we have had over 15 people attend the café and we expect numbers to keep growing with inquiries coming in each week. We believe that within the next year we can double numbers for this provision, but also hope to develop projects out of this that can support community cohesion and create opportunities to gain new skills for employment.
