Our Place is a community based project run by a voluntary management committee. Our members are made up from local residents, local businesses, voluntary organisations and community groups. The main aim of our project is to improve the quality of life for people in Staple Hill. We achieve this by providing accessible local services and by developing wide ranging support for local people. Our aim is to improve community cohesion by working together with the whole community.
Why the community needs usOur Place provides resources and practical support for local people, many of whom are the most vulnerable and isolated in our community. Our volunteers have years of experience delivering a wide range of support to those in need. Our Place users have somewhere safe they can come and feel part of their community. We support people who are in most need, specifically people with learning difficulties, mental health problems, the isolated elderly, the unemployed and anyone else who needs us.
Our impact on the communityOn this large estate we offer a safe environment where people can meet, join in activities, make new friends, learn new skills and achieve a sense of belonging. The day trips we organise are for some of our users the only holiday they have. This year we ran cookery courses for young mums who had very limited cooking skills. We run lunch and breakfast clubs at heavily subsidised prices benefitting those on low incomes and those who for various reasons are unable to cook for themselves.
