We are a voluntary organisation which meets weekly in a local church for the benefit of anyone over the age of 55 who wants to meet new people. Our aims are to provide opportunities for our members to socialise, develop friendships and promote well being. We provide a varied range of activities, from just chatting, to listening to a range of speakers talk about health and social care, developments in the local area etc. We all enjoy trips and excursions which we provide on a regular basis.
Why the community needs usThe group acts as a support network for each other. We keep in touch with members who are ill or just need help with shopping, collecting a prescription or posting a parcel, providing transport to events etc. Their dependence on 'government and local government dwindling social help is therefore greatly reduced.
Our impact on the communityWe are a relatively small group with about 20 members, but our outreach extends to family members and friends on some occasions. We have provided a social club in the Quar area of Merthyr for almost 5 years.
