We celebrate our local past, present and future maritime, natural and built heritage.
Portaferry and Strangford Trust aims to develop a maritime heritage centre involving a heritage building to celebrate the rich maritime history of Portaferry, Strangford and surrounding area. In the meantime we are holding maritime events and exhibitions to raise awareness. We are keen to raise awareness amongst all age groups and are encouraging training in maritime skills such as boatbuilding.
Why the community needs usBy creating a participatory heritage centre we will enable local people and visitors to the area to draw inspiration from the past and improve the quality of their lives. By attracting visitors to this disadvantaged area we also aim to bring economic benefits and create jobs.
Our impact on the communityOur events have proved popular with positive comments. The Carol Ship on Strangford Lough in December 2014 attracted over 5000 visitors. We are now planning the 2015 Carol Ship.
PAST has had a very successful first year but we need to back this up by making the organisation more robust and sustainable.
