Peak Empower launched in July 2019 with the ethos that together we can make all types of clubs inclusive and accessible to those with additional mental and health needs. We promote positive use of recreational activities to improve self-esteem, well-being & confidence in those that are socially isolated for a range of different reasons (for example for health, finance, age, gender, etc).
Why the community needs usWe successful run a series of successful clubs and courses as well as branching out into collaborations with other organisations to advise on how to make clubs more inclusive and accessible to all.
During the Corona Virus we changed our remit slightly to run a series of well being sessions on line and sports sessions on line to help people cope with mental health. We also sent out over 800 well-being packs, Autism packs, family packs and food parcels to families and people in need in the community as well as supporting over 3000 care home staff and residents by providing pamper packs for staff and activities such as wooden craft sessions for men with dementia or painting sessions etc. In addition we also supplied a series of kindles to care homes so that residents could be kept in touch with loved ones. We also worked closely with the local Homeless shelter (The Hope Centre) to help provide items and food for the centre as well as supplying PPE for local clubs and small local companies who could not afford to open without these items. We have built up a huge community base to run alongside our Home Education sports programmes for young people with additional needs but we continue to strive to do more.
We recently started our 'Secret Santa' project where we are putting together Christmas wish lists so that people on their own can known that someone has thought about them, or for families who have been struggling financially or even just to help ensure people don't go into debt this Christmas. We have already received 80 families 'nice lists' and look forward to fulfilling as many as we can. We also want to continue to do food parcels but again make sure they are Christmas lunch parcels and that anyone on their own this Christmas can either join in with others locally who are also on their own or else ensure they get a meal this Christmas. We will also be continuing on our online well being sessions as Christmas can be really hard on everyone emotionally and mentally especially this year, and also offer online healthy cooking sessions. The more money is donated to us the more we can do for the community and ensure that everyone has some Christmas Cheer and gets in the holiday spirit.
Our impact on the communityWe help 80-100 young people a year with additional mental and health needs and offer a safe space for them to meet new people, learn new things and improve their confidence. This year we have helped over 4000 people and want to ensure we continue to do as much as possible.
