Betws-y-Coed | Community Support & Development
The Penmachno Community Field project is a locally run project which aims to use the strength of our amazing community spirit to create a space for growing which will have recreational, health and educational benefits for all ages. We are turning the field into a space for the whole commuity to access the health, environmental and financial benefits of growing food, including allotments, a community orchard and community garden.
Why the community needs usWhy the community needs usPenmachno, like many rural villages is poorly served by public transport. The 16 mile round trip to buy fresh fruit and vegetables is severely impractical for those who do not have access to a car. The Community Field provides the opportunity for all in the community to grow affordable fruit and vegetables, regardless of age, income, ability or background.
Our impact on the communityOur impact on the communityThe ability to grow fresh produce has well known benefits, including the physical and mental health benefits of gardening, as well as the healthy diet provided by the end product. Our orchard of Welsh species trees and renovated native hedgerows will preserve and sustain our heritage, wildlife and our beautiful environment.
