Most of our residents are former homeless, and many are struggling with addiction or mental health issues. Our aim is to help them sustain their tenancy, get their lives back on track, become more independent and ultimately secure jobs and their own accommodation. In the early days though it is often 'the little things' that really make a difference. Residents have told us, for example, that they'd like to grow some vegetables where they live, learn to mend bikes or cook nutritious meals, play tennis, go fishing…or even have a 'pamper evening'! Your donation will help us provide the activities, workshops and in some cases equipment (e.g. tennis rackets, fishing rods and watering cans!) which our residents value and which will help them, little by little, regain their confidence and self-esteem, and can also help us help them into training and/or volunteering.
Why the community needs usBecause the lifestyle of some of our residents is quite chaotic, activities and workshops which engage them in constructive activities will benefit not only them but also the wider community.
Our impact on the communitySo far, around 30 residents have participated in activities or attended training courses. All have learned new skills and/or reported feeling more positive and optimistic. The biggest 'success story' is a resident who has recently completed a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) Course and hopes to secure his first job in many years this spring/summer.
