To support the community of people in Plymouth and surrounding areas, living with and/or caring for people with epilepsy and seizure disorders, in a way that is holistic and fun, supporting and improving their mental health and well-being, whilst decreasing social exclusion, isolation, while encouraging friendship and independence. All aimed at increasing health and wellbeing and making life with epilepsy easier to live with.
Why the community needs us
By supporting each other, we aim to help improve mental health & well-being, whilst decreasing social exclusion, isolation & encouraging friendship, support & independence. All activities aim to help improve overall wellbeing, mental & physical health & decrease social isolation. We are a friendly support group run by people with epilepsy for people with epilepsy. We offer advice on self-management including education on nutrition, exercise & relaxation, including specialist guest speakers.
Our impact on the community
So far we have created and taken part in fun activities that have helped boost confidence and moral, providing fun and enjoyment, while improving mental wellbeing (many people suffer deep depression and anxiety when diagnosed with epilepsy). To date these activities have included local walks, a day out and picnic on Mount Edgcumbe, the Camel Trail cycle ride, surfing in Newquay, social evenings, a sea fishing trip, fundraising days and many a coffee, laugh and chat together.
Currently we meet the first Wednesday of every month at Moments cafe, George Street, Plymouth, 1:30-3pm. We have a lovely private space, disabled access and all refreshments are included.
We also offer one to one specialist coaching for those newly diagnosed or needing more support.
All services and activities are fully funded.
