POW works with anyone involved in, affected by or at risk of becoming involved in prostitution.
To preserve and protect good health within the sex work community whilst ensuring appropriate services are accessible. Secondary issues of homelessness, mental health, domestic and sexual violence are common place amongst POW's service group.POW highlights the hidden issue of prostitution to the wider community, challenging discrimination and reducing stigma. POW is recognized as the prime advocate for the prostitute community in Nottingham.
Why the community needs usPOW benefits the wider community through the engagement of drug users in effective treatment; reducing adult re-offending rates for those under probation supervision; number of vulnerable people achieving independent living; reducing the Under 18 conception rate; supporting victims of rape and sexual violence.
Our impact on the communityPOW aims to have a long-term impact on the lives of the client group. Through PEER education POW mediates between clients and statutory agencies, impacting a vulnerable client group and encouraging them to access services assisting them in making permanent lifestyle changes. Through the issuing of condoms and sexual health training POW impacts on the spread of infectious diseases throughout the community.
