To advance the education of disaffected young people in West Yorkshire between the ages of 16 and 24, who are unemployed or lacking in qualifications or at risk of persistent anti-social behaviour or offending by provisions of outdoor educational, other training and challenging activities to improve their personal and social skills.
Why the community needs usProject Challenge is an intensive 26 week training programme, which builds on self confidence together with the accumulation of nationally recognised qualifications. The results are young people with real qqualifications, real confidence and real determination to make a better life for themselves in the world of work and education. The benefit to the community is reduced anti-social behaviour and more rounded individuals who want to put something back into their communities.
Our impact on the communityProject Challenge has a 65% success rate in positive progressions. But the real measure of success is the feeling of achievment of having completed a gruelling 14 day self supporting expedition in some of the most remote parts of Europe. In an unfamiliar, potentially hostile environment, young people have the opportunity fo use their new skills and to genuinely put themselves to the test. Their place has to be earned in the previous 6 months and they have to look out for each other.
