Radio Wishing Well was established in April 1982. The original concept for a hospital radio station was formed by Byron Richards, who was a hospital employee. He believed the patients of Trafford General Hospital (or Park Hospital as it was known then) would benefit from an internal hospital radio service. The aim being to relieve boredom, infirmity, old age and loneliness for those in hospital.
From initially broadcasting for one hour day in an old telephone switchboard room, today Radio Wishing Well is housed in a spacious office and studio space within the hospital which has two recording studios. The station broadcasts 24 hours a day, every day of the year and is now also available to listeners online via www.radiowishingwell.com.
There are approximately 25 volunteers who carry out a range of activities from presenting music, information and entertainment programmes, to ward visiting, fundraising, community engagement, technical support, marketing and communication and much more.
