Reading Mencap is a local charity affiliated to, but receiving no financial support from, the Royal Mencap Society. We provide support with any issue around learning disability through our unique Family Support Service; respite, social events and information to unpaid family carers; a user-led day service (Mencap Enables) for adults with learning disabilities; and run regular leisure activity groups (clubs) for children and adults with learning disabilities.

Why the community needs us
Without support, people with a learning disability struggle on a daily basis and can suffer from discrimination, isolation, anxiety, and unmet health and social care needs.

Our impact on the community
We support 400-500 people a year, helping them to make their own choices and resolve problems around housing, benefits, education, health and social care. Our clubs and Mencap Enables service enable people to make friends, gain independence and maintain their health and wellbeing.
