The Royal Highland Education Trust (RHET) works to support schools in teaching Scottish schoolchildren about the issues surrounding food, farming and the countryside. This is done through: Farm visits; Classroom talks; curriculum resources for schools; Outdoor education events and The Royal Highland Show education programme. All RHET services are FREE to schools in Scotland to ensure no child in Scotland misses out on food & countryside education.
Why the community needs usYoung people engaging with RHET activities have an enhanced understanding of the working rural environment of Scotland, the dynamic nature of food, farming and countryside activities and careers. Our children must understand the vital contribution such activities make to sustaining and enhancing Scotland's economy and way of life.
Our impact on the communityDuring the last academic year RHET hosted: - 486 Farm visits with 11,311 school children attending.- 251 Farm visit events (food and farming, estate and countryside days) with 4,857 children attending.- 1,166 classroom talks involving 28,172 children.
Whether you are a farmer, have experience in farming and/or food production, or just have an interest in the topic, we will train you and provide you with the resources you need to speak to schools ; host farm visits or assist with the running of your local countryside Initiative. By getting involved you will become part of a network of hundreds of like-minded volunteers who pass on their expertise and enthusiasm about food, farming and the countryside to Scottish school children .
