A group of service-minded men and women who are doing local volunteer work to support the community
To empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through Lions clubs. Our volunteers encompass all walks of life from the local retired postman to a decorated MBE pensioner. We pride ourselves on having a broad spectrum of expertise and everyone is allowed to bring their own personal skills to our meetings and agree to help wherever they can. We endeavor to help only those that live in and around Ripon.
Why the community needs usAs we ask helpers, volunteers and friends within the city of Ripon to help us we feel duty bound to plough the money raised back into our own community. We have a few charity events during the year culminating with a Christmas Santa's sleigh which involves 5-8 people every night in December going out after work at 5pm in all but terrible weather collecting. Moms, dads and children turn out in droves to see Santa and it is now a well established tradition in Ripon. Last year we raised over £2000!
Our impact on the communityDuring this year we have bought a laptop for a young boy whose mum was desperately ill from cancer as a Christmas present his dad could not afford. We paid for the transport for an elderly peoples home to go to the theatre plus another home to go for a Christmas dinner hosted by the St Johns Ambulance volunteers. We provided a stable flooring throughout a bungalow to allow a disable man in a wheelchair to get around. Currently we are helping to fund a lift in a house for a disabled person.
