To offer supported training and employment opportunities to young adults (17 - 25) with learning disabilities through establishing and running a community cafe in Kimberley. As well as catering and hospitality skills, the young people involved will gain life skills and, hopefully, become less socially and economically excluded as a result. The cafe is a not-for-profit venture and offers high quality refreshments in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
Why the community needs usRumbletums cafe offers training opportunities for young adults with learning disabilities and, at the same time, supports the local community by working with other local organisations and local people to offer a community-focused venue for meetings, events and activities. Eventually, we hope to offer specific events and services to key groups in the local community such as older people, families, parents and toddlers and local schools.
Our impact on the communityThe results of the project will be measured in the number of young adults who take part in the running of Rumbletums and the number who gain new qualifications and experience and then go on to some other positive outcome afterwards (employment, college, further training, etc). We will also measure our success in the sustainability and commercial success of the cafe itself.
