We are 1 of the 60 Independent Lifeboat stations in the UK. Our purpose is to prevent the loss of life at sea and promote sea safety by education and training. We operate 2 inshore Lifeboats. Our service is manned and run entirely by volunteers, on call 24 hrs a day all year round to HMCG; our area covers roughly 3 mile radius around Ryde. In 2012 we attended 48 incidents and rescued 97 people. Water Safety education is achieved through schools and a organisations visiting our Rescue Centre.

Why the community needs us

We provide an all year inshore Search &Rescue facility over an area of the Solent not covered by the RNLI. All recreational and small commercial users benifit from our service when they are in trouble, whether in a 40 ft yacht, fishing motor boat, a child's inflatable or purely bathing. On average we successfully deal with 56 incidents a yearOur Rescue Centre overlooks the beach and provides a First Aid post and acts as a focal point for searching for lost children

Our impact on the community

Your donation is important to us. Being an independent Lifeboat station we have to raise all our funds ourselves. We receive no standing grants from the local Council, the Government or grant providers. All of our funds come from donations such as yours and our own fundraising, done mostly by the Lifeboat crew. The more donations we receive the lower is this additional burden on our volunteer crews.
