St Peter's is a church that has a range of both spiritual and social aims. Currently it offers a safe space, companionship and a hot meal to homeless and vulnerably housed people in the local area through it's project called Safehaven. It feeds approx 60 guests each week. It values relationship and has a large committed volunteer base who proactively spend time with the guests, eating with them to develop friendship.
Why the community needs usBrighton and Hove has a large number of homeless and vulnerably housed people. Many homeless people often congregate on the greens around the church and our project provides much needed support to these people. Many day centres in the area are not open at the weekends many homeless people were going without a proper meal.
Our impact on the communityEach week, we serve 100 meals to the local homeless population. We offer a safe place in which they can feel welcomed, be treated with dignity and receive a warm meal. For many of our 35 volunteers we hope to help them understand the needs of the street community. We hope to be able to sign post the clients to other services and help where appropriate. We run the Recovery Course and offer it to some of the guests that have issues with addiction.
