We provide respite breaks to families affected by cancer. Our breaks include ocean cruises, riverboat adventures, park breaks and sailing days and weekends. We give families the opportunity to get way from the stress of living with cancer everyday and spend quality time together to bond as a family again. We also do this for families who have recently lost someone to cancer. Two of our special projects are sailing weekends for teenages with cancer and breaks for young carers.
Why the community needs usCancer is one of he most prevalent diseases in our community and in the UK 750 people are told each day that they have cancer. This has a devastating effect on the whole family. In addition to the strain of living with cancer these families often also experience financial difficulties. We give them something to look forward to throughout the treatment and to spend quality time together as a family.
Our impact on the communityThe families we help tell us it gives them a rare opportunity to be just a normal family not defined by cancer. Parents can give attention to children in an atmosphere away from their stressful daily lives. Often cancer also causes enormous strain and a surprisingly high number of marriages and relationships experienced difficulties. The time way provide the opportunity to work on family relationships.
