The group exists to relieve isolation and loneliness in older people in Great Bridge. We meet every Tuesday at Salem Hall for our afternoon tea dance with refreshments. Currently more than fifty people attend and newcomers are always welcome. Our DJ and compare John entertains us for two and a half hours with music, raffles, football card and bonus ball. Hazel, Pauline, John, Albert and Nina are kept busy organising themed afternoons and trips throughout the year.
Why the community needs usWe work very closely with our friends at the Veterans Group to provide activities to benefit the whole community, like our Jubilee event for example. The proof of the pudding is in the eating! People tell us all the time that their lives are better as a result of being part of the group. Their loneliness is reduced and occasionally love blossoms between members. Infact, were all shopping for hats for a wedding in December!
Our impact on the communityWithout the group many older and disabled people would have celebrated their birthday alone, and you can't celebrate your ninety sixth alone can you? We are more than just a tea dance group, we are a Community group with a capital C. Recent fundraising activities have enabled us to buy new music equipment.
