Our main event, held in the Yorkshire Dales in May, consists of 4 days of in-depth music and dance courses, performances, dances, music sessions, and community and school activities. For several years we have been inviting the best traditional musicians and dancers from Norway and Sweden to teach and perform at this event. More recently we have been promoting individual concerts and workshops when the opportunity arises.
Why the community needs usWe offer opportunities for local people to experience and enjoy this music; through concerts, sometimes free ones, meeting the artists and learning something about the culture and traditions of Scandinavia. Last year a local fiddle group (The Lakeland Fiddlers) performed with visiting artists at a concert, stimulating an exchange of skills, and children in two local schools, primary and secondary worked with the visiting nyckelharpa player and performed at one of the concerts.
Our impact on the communityDirectly, about 80 participants at the Scandimoot weekend and around 240 of the public in live audiences - two concerts, schools, and community groups, benefit from this event. Indirectly the numbers are far higher because the music and dance tuition is spread by the passion of the people who've attended, all over the UK as far as London, the Shetlands; Europe.
