Scarborough Sea Cadets is a Voluntary youth organisation for boys and girls aged 12 -18 (10 for junior sections). We provide a range of activities, sport and skills which are attractive and adventurous within a caring discipline, based on the high standards of the Royal Navy, to which young people can respond and which will in turn assist their development of self confidence, self discipline, leadership and responsibility. We aim to support:Education/training Amateur sport Children/young people People with disabilities and disadvantaged children We aim to encourage good citizenship and provide worthwhile qualifications (including the Duke of Edinburgh Award and BTEC). We offer a wide range of activities from sailing and canoeing, rock climbing, engineering, IT and communications, to music and cookery. We provide opportunities and experiences not usually offered in main stream education.
Why the community needs usWe offer an amazing meeting place for youngsters 10-18. Adult volunteers acting as good role models challenge, inspire and mentor youngsters based on the customs and traditions of the Royal Navy, giving them confidence and self discipline. This is achieved through nautical adventure to develop young leaders with a good understanding of their worth, a sense of responsibility and pride in the local community is their legacy.
Our impact on the communityMany go on to become high achievers, developing a wide range of skills and talents enjoying interesting and rewarding careers. Some go on to Naval careers and find that their time as sea cadets has great value.Our cadets are a credit to the community and are confident youngsters who give back. The impact that sea cadets has, makes them very employable and responsible.The cadets have fun and make lifelong friends and learn valuable skills.
