We provide a safe secure environment for children & young people to learn & develop through play. With access to after school and holiday playschemes we encourage intergenerational work to breakdown barriers and help reduce anti social behaviour issues. To tackle the increase in child obesity, we provide a physical activity during every session, this may be dance, keep fit, sports, outdoor games and drama. We also provide educational workshops in bullying, gun/knife crime, drugs & alcohol.
Why the community needs us
SCCYP is based in an area of multiple deprivations, the nearest leisure centres/cinemas are 1 or 2 bus rides away which means that children and young people are excluded from enjoying family days out to theatres, cinemas etc as it is far too costly. We try our best to arrange these trips free of charge so that no child is excluded. We also arrange for qualified sports, dance and drama facilitators. Local residents, volunteers and attending children & families benefit from this.
Our impact on the community
We help approximately 150 children and young people during the year by encouraging their participation in a diverse range of activities and opportunities. 12 children will learn to swim In a year which we feel is a very important life skill and statistics show that only 25% of ten year olds are able to swim. On average two 10 week blocks of swimming teach children to swim & they will continue attending until they can and then a new set will attend. Happy engaged children & Young people.
