SeahavenFm Local Radio Eastbourne, Lewes, Newhaven, Peacehaven, Polegate and Seaford.
Seahaven FM is not for profit, Ofcom licensed Community Radio Station covering Eastbourne, Lewes, Newhaven, Peacehaven, Polegate and Seaford and the surrounding towns and villages. We were set up in March 2008 and launched full-time on FM in January 2011. We broadcast 24 hours a day 7, days a week, 365 days a year solely for the benefit of our local listeners and businesses.
The concept of the station is to provide a genuinely local radio service to the residents and businesses of the area we cover which has an approximate population of 230,000. Seahaven FM provides a whole range of community needs, local advertising, free regular promotion of any and all local clubs and societies, traffic and travel updates during peak travel times, a superb “Whats On” website page all free to the users and hourly news updates together with weather forecasts and weather warnings.
We welcome local organisations, local government and individuals to participate on air to promote their activities and behind the scenes we offer training and work experience to prospective volunteers and students on work experience and internships.
Seahaven FM has flourished and developed as a direct result of the total commitment of the staff team at the station. Of the 30 or so volunteers who assist in the running the station only 4 are part time salaries. Volunteers give between a few hours a week up to 25 hours towards making the station the success that it is, all of the presenters are committed to delivery of a superb, professional product of information, entertainment and music from more than 8 decades.
The station actively encourages public involvement both through the volunteer scheme and through supporting individuals to develop their personal; skills. The ethos of the station is to support and develop individuals through to whatever life skills they are seeking to develop. Some volunteers do not wish to go on air, but they fullfil a valuable role helping with admin, research, updating websites with what’s on, news, and clerical support.
Unlike commercial enterprises Seahaven FM is incorporated as a not-for-profit company, although, obviously advertising local businesses plays a critical role to help cover the day to day running costs of the station. There are only three, part salaried staff but the majority of the staff gives their time freely for the benefit of the station and to the local community.
We recognise in these unprecedented times that calls for financial support are at a premium but we, just like any other Community organisation, need financial support just to keep delivering the level of service that we commit to. Throughout the Covid Pandemic we have given lots of airtime delivering vital information to our listeners be it about Foodbanks, support for Domestic Abuse, Social Service and District Council information all of which is being delivered by our team of volunteer presenters
How Can you help?Quite simple really, our core running costs are about £100 every single day to stay on air, that figure is purely the technical and administrative costs, THERE ARE NO SALARIES INVOLVED, in this figure. If you enjoy Seahaven FM you can make a one off donation of any amount or a monthly donation, from as little as £1 per month, this will go towards the running of the station, in fact we can pretty much fit a plan to suit you.
If you would like to chat to us about support in any way please contact the Station Manger
