Sharedydd supports the hosting of people seeking asylum who are made destitute by Government Policy. Sharedydd works in partnership with Refugees at Home, who recruit and support people who volunteer to host an asylum seeker in their home. Sharedydd works to support the guest in a number of ways. Some include: signposting services and helping individuals access essential and integrational services, helping individuals progress their asylum claim by offering support to engage with lawyers, monitoring and improving wellbeing and promoting new opportunities so that people can lead empowered lives.

Why the community needs us
People who seek asylum often become destitute when they reach a break in their case and their Home Office support is removed - they are given no accommodation, no recourse to public funds and have no right to work. This does not mean that they don't have a valid asylum claim!
Asylum claims are complex legal cases that require significant evidence, legal advocacy and they can be affected by language barriers and other social barriers. Moreover, the asylum system is designed to create hostile outcomes (such as destitution) for individuals who wish to rebuild their lives here after facing threats of persecution or war in their country of origin.

Hosting allows individuals to focus and engage with their legal cases, without having to worry about where they will sleep. Sharedydd and Refugees at Home work to ensure all individuals in the hosting process are happy and feel safe. Sharedydd believes that all individuals who seek asylum here should be treated kindly and should live dignified lives. We want to build a kinder Cardiff and ensure everyone feels welcomed.

Our impact on the community
Hosting has so many benefits. Not only do hosts prevent people from becoming homeless and isolated, they also learn from the resilience and strength of people they host. Sharedydd ensures that our service users can access services and opportunities that will empower them. People who seek asylum have usually experienced trauma, lost loved ones and face so many social barriers in the UK. We want people to rebuild a sense of belonging and a sense of home here in Wales; sometimes, that begins with the kindness of a local person who is willing to share their home with someone who deserves a better chance in life.
