Our vision is that all people should have access to good quality accommodation suitable for their needs, and real opportunities to achieve their full potential. Our purpose is to enable people who are homeless or vulnerably housed to access and sustain accommodation, training and employment in order to improve their quality of life. Exeter Shilhay Community Ltd, a not-for-profit independent charity in Exeter, has been working with people who are homeless and vulnerably housed since 1967.
Why the community needs usWe have been working since 1967 to support people who are homeless and vulnerably housed. The charity has a successful track-record in the provision of local services in Exeter such as basic survival provision, emergency night-shelter and direct access accommodation, meaningful activity, and community resettlement.
Our impact on the communityOver the years we have continued to support and work alongside many other local organisations in order to ensure that the people who engage with our services have access to the necessary provision and support essential for their own welfare and development. In recent years, as societal changes and family breakdowns have brought street homelessness to the forefront of the media, Shilhay Community continues to play a key role in promoting and actioning local initiatives to crucially support people
