1:1 Pastoral Mentoring for young people coping with grief, mental health and emotional wellbeing difficulties.

We mentor young people who are struggling each week for as long as needed. We build a relationship of trust and support to ensure they feel seen, heard, connected and cared for. We use person-centred counselling skills, and cognitive behavioural and solution-focused approaches to help them understand and manage the complexity of emotions that are a part loss (including anger, anxiety and low mood), build their resilience and assist them to thrive in their wellbeing, relationships and education.

Why they need our service

Half of all under 16's in the UK experience family breakdown and 92% experience bereavement. Both are Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs): stressful and sometimes traumatic experiences which can have very negative effects on health, wellbeing, education and life chances throughout people's lives.

Plan and expected results

Over the last year the project has delivered 1,052 hours of mentoring and a track record of re-engaging young people in school and lessening their risk of school exclusion. Our outcome measures demonstrate an 10.56 average reduction in emotional distress for the students we've worked with as well as significant improvements in areas such as young people's levels of anger and anxiety, motivation and concentration, their ability to stay 'on task' in lessons.
