Providing local services and facilities that help to improve the lives of the people of Shotton.
Shotton Partnership 2000 Ltd. is a grassroots voluntary organisation, which was set up with the aim of regenerating Shotton Colliery. Our objectives are to provide education and vocational training; create job opportunities; provide recreation and leisure facilities; improve the environment; promote health, public safety and reduce crime and help provide any other services and facilities deemed to be of benefit to the community.
Why the community needs usShotton Colliery is an East Durham ex-mining village with a population of approximately 4,300. Closure of the mine in 1972 impacted severely on local unemployment rates, health, income and educational attainment. The Partnership aims to address these inequalities by working with residents and other agencies which will maximise resources and explore all opportunities which help to improve the quality of life in our village.
Our impact on the communityIn 2011 the Parntership delivered 160 free meals to the elderly, over 600 people attended the Annual Community Festival, 26 people attended stroke rehabilitation sessions and our Newsletter, Village Views, was delivered to 2000 homes in the village The I.T. Centre attracted 146 new adult members and 36 new youth members with 14 people gaining City & Guilds qualifications in Literacy and/or Numeracy at Level 1 and/or Level 2 - some achieving both. Ten learners completed the full ECDL.
