We support young people to develop and deliver social action projects based on issues affecting them and their communities. We also enable young people to engage decision makers to ensure that the voice of young people is being listened to. We currently have 4 forums that meet weekly and that run from different areas within Blackburn. Three of the groups are mixed open to any young person and one is just for young females as we identified young females as a priority group.
Why the community needs usOur programmes will ensure that young people become active citizens of their local community. We will empower them to an extent where they feel valued and recognised for whom they are and what role they can play within the community. Young people will transition from being disengaged and disadvantaged to engaged and advantaged by recognising that the community needs them for it to improve not the other way round.
Our impact on the communityCurrently SLYNCS engages with 100 young people weekly through the 4 youth forums that we run and the work carried out in high schools across the Borough. Since it's formation, the organisation has supported a number of young people whom would not normally engage in extra curricular activities due to social, cultural or financial barriers however we have enabled them to take part in activities in locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. SLYNCS has also raised awareness on key issues.
