Small Acts of Kindness reduces loneliness and isolation for older and vulnerable people, particularly those who are cold in their home.
Small Acts of Kindness is an ambitious, award winning, high impact, rapidly growing, organisation. We source and distribute practical gifts to older, often lonely and isolated people helping them stay warm in their homes and reducing the negative impacts on physical and mental wellbeing of loneliness and isolation. Small Acts of Kindness is changing the lives of some of the most vulnerable and hardest to reach older and vulnerable people in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire.
Why the community needs us
Since our project launch in January 2015, Small Acts of Kindness has grown from distributing 50 gift bags to 1,000 in the winter 2015/16 to over 2,800 in 2016/17 to 4,500 in 2017/18 and 7,500 in 2019/20.In total, since the project began, just nine years ago, we have reached over 105,000 cold, often lonely and isolated older and vulnerable people in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire. 'I am overwhelmed at the super gift from you wonderful people. I'm a widow since 1978 & have always managed but the last few years I have sat freezing or gone to bed early'
Our impact on the community
This project offers an intervention to older people. Recipients will be warmer in their homes with reduced risks of cold related health problems such as strokes and heart attacks from raised blood pressure and falls from impaired movement. Recipients of gift bags will:1. Be warmer in their homes with the associated reduced risk of cold related illness or seasonal death. 2. Feel less lonely and isolated. 3. Have increased feelings of wellbeing. 4. Are better connected to their community
