SNAP (Special Needs And Parents) is a charity that helps Essex families with children and young people with any special need or disability. Our aims are to inform, encourage and support parents, so that they can grow in strength and knowledge and become better equipped to give the best possible help to their children. Families remain with SNAP because as their children get older the problems they face do not go away but evolve; consequently, there is a need for continuing support and advice.

Why the community needs us

More than 2,000 families are currently receiving help from SNAP and since the charity was formed in 1994, over 4,100 families have been supported with counselling, benefits advice, parent training, talks, a helpline, plus a range of therapeutic and developmental activities for the children that also enable them to enjoy activities and form friendships. These include music, yoga, drama, pre-school sessions, multi-sensory activities, plus after school clubs and activities during school holidays.

Our impact on the community

"In the beginning SNAP was my lifeline to the outside world. Through your support and encouragement you gave me back my self-esteem and belief in my abilities as a parent" "SNAP helped and supported our family at a time when we felt desperately worried and alone" "The most amazingly supportive group that has provided comfort, intelligent advice, a sense of hope and continued support" "SNAP makes me feel safe. It is my safe place. You are there to catch me when I stumble or fall"
