The objects of the St Albans & District Foodbank are the prevention or relief of poverty in St Albans District and surrounding areas in particular but not exclusively by providing emergency food supplies to individuals in need and/or charities, or other organisations working to prevent or relieve poverty
Why the community needs us
We don't think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry. That's why we provide three days' nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to us in crisis. We are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.
How we help
Clients are referred to us from agencies such as Citizens Advice, Social Services, health professionals, teachers and refuge centres. Clients are provided with a voucher which can be exchanged for a food parcel.
Three day emergency food parcels are provided via 8 distribution hubs throughout the St Albans District. In addition to food, clients are offered cleaning products, hygiene products, fresh fruit and vegetables and eggs and bread if we have them.
Clients are offered signposting to specialist agencies to help them receive advice on issues affecting them, with representatives from Citizens Advice Bureau available in most of our distribution hubs to provide immediate help. In addition we employ a specialist Wellbeing and Engagement Coordinator to further assist clients receive the help and benefits to which they are entitled.
Everyone should be able to afford the basics!
How your donation helps
Your financial donations are used to run the Foodbank including its staff, warehouse, hubs and van and also to purchase items from wholesalers when food donations run short.
On behalf of all those who find it necessary to access the food bank, we thank you.
