Credit Union, run by volunteers, encouraging saving and loans at reasonable interest rates rather than doorstep lenders, loan sharks, payday loans etc. Regulated by FSA and has Common Bond of Hertfordshire. Also to help homeless secure accommodation by providing rent deposits.

The Credit Union is run by volunteers from the local community and now lends c.£250,000 at reasonable rates of interest and has £420,000 of savings. We work with the local authority, the CAB, the CVS, the Local Strategic Partnership, the Chamber of Commerce and the Job Centre.

We have enabled many people to avoid doorstep lenders and have helped 50 families and 10 single people obtain private sector rented accommodation by providing loans for housing deposits. We also encourage a savings culture amongst those in the community who would not, normally be inclined to save.
